Pokemon Spotlight- Scolipede
Scolipede is a very overlooked Pokemon.
It has very impressive stats-
HP: 60
Attack: 100
Defense: 89
Sp.Atk: 55
Sp.Def: 69
Speed: 112
While it has a very limited learn-set, it learns both Spikes and Toxic Spikes via egg moves, so it can be a very good hazard setter. It also has the ability Speed Boost (changed from Quick Feet in Gen V). This ability increases its Speed stat by one stage per turn. In combination with Protect, Iron Defense (prior to evolution), Agility, Swords Dance and Defense Curl and most importantly Baton Pass, Scolipede can function as a very strong Stat Passer.
If you want to be more offensive, you can use the base 100 attack (boosted 10 since Gen V). With the introduction of Fairy typing, Poison gained the ability to hit another type for Super Effective damage. It has access to Mega Horn, Poison Jab, Rock Slide, Earthquake, and Superpower (via transfer). If you use the Protect/Speed Boost strategy, then Rock Slide and Steamroller paired with the King's Rock to try to get flinches.
Scolipede tends to get overlooked, but with these strategies, it could be used effectively.

New Mega Evolutions
Today it was revealed that three new Pokemon gained new Mega Evolutions- Camerupt, Sharpedo, and finally, Gallade.
First off, Mega Camerupt. This mega loses speed, but gains points in every other stat. It is assumed it will be used by Maxie of Team Magma. It has the ability Sheer Force.
Next is Mega Sharpedo. This mega gains stat points in all six stats. It is presumably used by Archie of Team Aqua. It has the ability Strong Jaw, increasing the power of its bite based moves.
The final mega revealed is the starter of Wally-Mega Gallade. Nothing is know about this Mega at this point, but it is assumed it will retain its same Psychic/Fighting type.

Marriland Interview
At Nationals this year, I had the chance to meet the popular Poketuber, Marriland. He was kind enough to give me an interview. I was able to ask him the following questions.
Q: When and how were you introduced to the series?
A: In early 1998, I saw a preview of Pokémon in an issue of Nintendo Power and it looked really cool, so I followed more previews until the games were released.
Q: What led you to become a Pokétuber?
A: I originally thought it'd be interesting adding a video walkthrough guide to accompany the written walkthrough I had done for my website, so I started recording videos. There wasn't really anyone else doing this back in early 2007 on YouTube. I guess it wasn't so much that I chose the Pokétuber life, but rather the Pokétuber life chose me!
Q: What is your second favorite behind Marill?
A: Sky Forme Shaymin. I really like it!
Q: What about Marill makes it your favorite?
A: It's hard to say! I have a soft spot for cute Pokémon as well as Water-types, so it's a pretty good fit. Other than that, I'm not really sure!
Q: Do you have any ideas for a new Pokémon?
A: A Fairy-type Pokémon based off of a Koala would be pretty cool, but I don't have anything elaborate to expand upon that.
Q: What is one Pokémon that you think needs a Mega-Evolution
A: Farfetch'd. It'd be awesome!
Q: Would there be a type you would add to the game?
A: I'd like to add the Bird type to the game. Re-type things so things like Pidgey are Bird/Flying (double resistance to Fighting), things like Moltres are Bird/Fire, and things like Charizard stay Fire/Flying. It'd require a lot of re-typing, but I think that could be interesting.
Q: Do/did you watch the anime at all and what do you think of it?
A: I watched the earlier seasons much more than I do now. They were alright. I've started watching the XY anime series and it's rather decent.
Q: If the Pikachu evolution line didn't exist, what Pokémon would be the mascot?
A: I've heard that Clefairy was originally slated to be the mascot, so I guess I'll stick with that.
Q: If you could change 1 thing competitively, what would it be?
A: I would like to see Ghost have more type coverage, particularly offense-wise. It's very redundant with Dark.
Q: If you could add 1 feature to the games, what would it be?
A: It's going to sound silly, but for the various challenges that I do, it would be really helpful to have a toggle for the Exp. Share that you can use to determine which of your Pokémon earns EXP; or, alternately, have an Exp. None item that disables selected Pokémon from gaining EXP (and EVs).

Pachirisu- 2014 World Champion?
VGC is a yearly competition of Pokemon games, both TCG and VGC, and this year was held in Washington DC.
The field was full of the usual threats, Garchomp, Charizard, Rotom, Mawhile, and Kangaskhan. But there was one Pokemon that everyone just wrote off as a waste of space, or a "Pika-clone," and that was Pachirisu.
As you see below, this little squirrel was standing alongside a Garchomp and a Talonflame, which was unexpected to say the least. How did this little Pokemon make it this far? In Smogon tier systems its all the way down in NU. Well the eventual winner of the VGC Masters division, Se Jun Park, chose a very interesting role for the Pachirisu.
Moves:
Nuzzle- 100% accurate Paralysis move that deals some damage
Follow Me- Redirects attacks to target Pachirisu and neutralizes Electric type moves due to Volt Absorb
Super Fang- Halves the opponents HP, regardless of set-up or investment
Protect-Keeps Pachirisu safe for a turn
Nature:
Impish- Helps increase Defense, allowing for survivable Earthquakes
Held Item:
Sitrus Berry- Restores 25% of the HP
Ability:
Volt Absorb- Used in conjunction with Follow Me for healing when hit with Electric Moves
Se Jun used this little Pokemon to help win him his first World title, and by the end of the tournament, the crowd was cheering for the little squirrel. This single Pokemon showed that any Pokemon could make it in VGC if used correctly.

YouTube Spotlight- Marriland!
Have you ever wanted to watch a walkthrough of a newly released Pokemon game? Or a Nuzelocke or variant of the challenge? Or just news updates for upcoming Pokemon games? Well, Marriland has all of these!
I first saw this channel while looking for information on the Goldenrod gym in SoulSilver and came upon Marriland's YouTube channel and was instantly hooked.
So far, Marriland has walkthroughs of Pokemon Diamond, Platinum, SoulSilver, Yellow, White, Black 2 (Japanese version), White 2, and X. He also has a walkthrough of a spin off, Pokemon Conquest.
In addition to walkthroughs, he has done a variety of Nuzlocke challenges. He's done an Emerald Nuzlocke, HeartGold Wedlocke, Platinum Nuzlocke, Black Wedlocke, and Black 2 Wedlocke. His most recent is the Pokemon Y Wondertrade Wedlocke challenge, where he catches a random Pokemon (one per route) and immediately Wonder Trades it for a new Pokemon. He also opens boxes of Pokemon cards and Prerelease videos.
He also has a separate channel, More Marriland, where he is doing videos on games other than Pokemon.
In person, he is very nice and takes time out whatever event is going on to talk to fans, take pictures, and sign autographs. He actually said he will give me time to interview him, so that will be coming shortly.
This has been another post on YouTube Spotlight, be sure to check out his channel!

ORAS news August 12, 2014
On the Korean Pokemon official site, two more megas were accidentally leaked.
Mega-Slowbro and Mega-Audino, two which nobody saw coming. Not much is know about these two yet, other than Mega-Slowbro has Shell Armor, which prevents Critical Hits, which when used with Toxic, Protect, Slack Off, and an offensive move, can make Slowbro even more of a reliable tank then before. Mega-Audino got the addition of the Fairy type, which I thought it should be in the first place. It also has the ability Healer.
While these are both good abilities, a couple things will probably prevent these megas from appearing in competitive play too much. First, you only get a single Mega per team, and why would you choose these? Maybe we will get a reason to when they release the stat boosts. Also, both of these Pokemon had a claim to fame, Regenerator. Now with the ability to go back to the trainer and heal taken away, will these be as widely used?

ORAS Update August 10, 2014
Today we got more information about the upcoming Gen III remakes, updating what we learned a couple days ago through a new trailer posted on the official Pokemon YouTube channel.
First of all, we saw the Stat updates for the Mega's that have been revealed.
Mega-Lopunny gets increased Attack and Speed, Mega-Salamence gets Defense, and Mega-Altaria gets increased Attack, Special Attack, and a small Defense boost.
In addition, Horde battles return, in the wild and against humans, in this case, against Magma Grunts.
We also got news of the return of Contests and Pokeblocks, which means that Feebas can once again evolve if you maximize the Beauty stat and level up, in addition to the Prism Scale trade item.
We also can speculate that the Contest idol named Lisia could have a Mega-Altaria due to the suspicious looking head band she has and the fact that she is seen with her Altaria, Ali, in many screenshots.
Next, we have the most interesting information of all, an update on the Cosplay Pikachu.
Originally thought to be just a costume for a contest, the trailer announced that this is a special Pikachu that you receive after competing in a contest, denoted by a black mark on the tail.
You can use this Pikachu, along with many forms and special moves, in battle along with contests, and can change forms at any time.
Finally, we learned about a special event Beldum, which holds a Mega stone and is shiny, that will run soon after the game's release.
